Come join us for our first meetup to learn and talk about the "Boomerang Bag" project. This community project started in 2013 in Australia as a conversation about plastic waste and its impact on the environment and what could be done about it. A platform was created that supports the diversion of post-consumer material (waste) into reusable bags to replace plastic bags and most importantly, start conversations about recycling and reusing leftover materials.
This project is about connecting communities, making bags, diverting waste, starting conversations, fostering sustainable behavior, and having a bit of fun!
For the first meetup we will watch a short Ted X talk from 2015 about this project. Everyone who attends will receive a pattern for making bags and we will go through an accelerated badging class for use of our sewing machines and serger that we have available in the Idea Studio. Ultimately the goal of this project is for the community to come together to talk about sustainability and recyclability of materials. We will all work together to sew and make as many bags as possible to then handout to patrons at the library and throughout the community.
We will hold monthly meetings in the Idea Studio for this Boomerang Bag Project, so if you can't make it to this first class, come join us in June or July.
