Come join us for our monthly Boomerang Bag meetup, which is about connecting communities, making reusable bags, diverting waste, starting conversations, fostering sustainable behavior, and having a bit of fun!
This community project started in 2013 in Australia as a conversation about plastic waste and its impact on the environment and what could be done about it. A platform was created that supports the diversion of post-consumer material (waste) into reusable bags to replace plastic bags and most importantly, start conversations about recycling and reusing leftover materials.
Everyone who attends will receive a pattern for making bags and we will go through an accelerated badging class for use of our sewing machines and serger that we have available in the Idea Studio. Ultimately the goal of this project is for the community to come together to talk about sustainability and recyclability of materials. We will all work together to make and sew as many bags as possible, to then handout to patrons at the library and throughout the community. We will also hand out Boomerang Bag kits for patrons who have access to a sewing machine at home, then they can take home the kits to assemble bags at home.
We will hold monthly meetings in the Idea Studio for this Boomerang Bag Project throughout the summer, so if you can't make it this month, please check our calendar for upcoming events.
