The Creativebug Club meets in the Fond du Lac Public Library Idea Studio on the fourth Wednesday of every month to explore award winning arts and craft video classes taught by recognized design experts and artists on Creativebug.com.
This month we will learn about sashiko stitching and we will watch and follow along with a few videos from "Japanese Sashiko: A Daily Decorative Stitching Practice" Taught by Lisa Solomon. Using the running stitch as a base, mixed media artist Lisa Solomon shows you 30 designs in the Japanese tradition of sashiko stitching. This beautiful and functional embroidery we enjoy today can be traced back to the thriftiness of 17th century Japanese peasant women. You will learn their traditional patterns which you can then use to make decorative pieces or mend and patch garments. No matter the method you choose, you’ll find that sashiko is a great way to slow down and stitch with intention, creating beauty from simplicity.
All supplies will be provided for this class. Registration is required for this event, so please sign up to reserve your spot. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your seat to give other patrons a chance to join the class. This event is open to teens and adults 13 years and older.
